Circular Economy and Ozone Clean

The Circular Economy is a transition away from the “buy, use, throw away” model to the “made to be made again” model.

Ozone Clean are not only doing their positive best for the environment with the way they have revolutionised the way hospitality and many other industries remove unwanted odours and bacteria, by using Ozone against traditional methods of removal which have high energy or chemical consumptions, which has been internationally recognised in their 2 Green Apple Awards. They are also adhering to the fundamental principals of “The Circular Economy”, which is a phrase we are all going to learn about and work towards in the near future.

What is The Circular Economy?

If you look beyond the current take-make-waste (as in buy, use, throw away) industrial model, a circular economy aims to redefine growth, focusing on positive society-wide benefits. It means gradually reducing economic activity from the consumption of finite resources and designing waste out of the system. This refers to an economy that would be able to grow without corresponding increases in environmental pressure and is based on three principles:

  • Design out waste and pollution
  • Keep products and materials in use
  • Regenerate natural systems

There are so many ways that we can rethink and redesign the way we make stuff. This process explores how through a change in attitude we can re-design the way our economy works – manufacturing products that can be ‘made to be made again’. Simply put “The Circular Economy” encourages us to design and use products that do not need to be thrown away, products (and component parts) that can be either be reused or recycled. An example for those Green fingers out there is old fruit and vegetables being reused for compost and for all you Film buffs it is similar to “The Circle of Life” from the Lion King.

Origins of the circular economy concept

The notion of “The Circular Economy” has a deep historical and philosophical background. The idea of feedback, of cycles in real-world systems, is ancient and has echoes in various schools of philosophy. There was a revival in industrialised countries after World War II when the advent of computer-based studies of non-linear systems revealed the complex and therefore unpredictable nature of the world we live in.

How does Ozone Clean help The Circular Economy?

From company inception the directors established a concept of building Ozone Generators that will last. If we were going to supply blue chip organisations Ozone generating equipment they were going to have to be extremely reliable. Reputations take years to build up and seconds to diminish. Manufacturing and supplying unreliable equipment with high breakdown rates would be a direct way of ruining a first class reputation or never having one in the first place. With that in mind, they used only the highest quality parts in the manufacturing process leading to Ozone machines that can last in excess of 14 years. Obviously if any piece of electrical equipment lasts over a decade it will need to be serviced and another way of destroying a quality reputation is to have high extra or hidden costs to the end user. Again, with this in mind, the parts that are used in their manufacturing process are either of the highest quality or can be repaired or recycled. Thus keeping those servicing costs as low as possible. This has resulted in no price increase in equipment or servicing for over 7 years. This also means that very little actually has to be thrown away by Ozone Clean adhering to one of the main principals of The Circular Economy.

More importantly are the machines themselves. Technically speaking, Ozone Cleans’ OC1500, OC700 and OC100 should never need to be thrown away. With regular servicing and maintenance there is no reason why they shouldn’t last a lifetime as every component part can be either repaired, reused or recycled. Ozone Clean has been manufacturing and supplying a range of Ozone Generating equipment for over 14 years and still have machines that are 14 years old running effectively and efficiently and will continue to do so for many more years. In the event a client moves on or refocuses their endeavours, Ozone Clean will happily take the old generators back, recondition, reuse and recycle so as to supply a new customer an effective and efficient Ozone Generator that is actually as good as new inside. Ok, admittedly, the bodywork can take a bit of a hit over the many hours and years of usage but “Circular Economy” not to worry as the bodywork is recyclable as well.

It makes for a satisfying business venture when you are supplying Grade A equipment to many different industries and organisations that rely on your equipment, experience and service whilst also helping the environment and local and national economies.
